SCHOOL FOR SPECIAL CHILDREN
A chance remark “this child will always be mine while others will depart” by a parent of special child, reflecting the bitter truth of present day world where children forsake their parents after they come of age, while the differently challenged children keep the parental instincts alive with the care they demand, spurred Reginaldo Lourenco to start the St. Vincent de Paul school for specially abled children at
Batora.
The school has 12 students aged between 6 years to 35 years and Maria Costa looks after their needs. An individual Education Plan has been prepared for each student after an assessment of the abilities of the student and in consultation with a psychiatrist, counselor and special educator. The children are taught functional things like cleanliness and hygiene and how to change notes. The students here are of different abilities. While there are two dyslexics, there are some suffering from Down syndrome and others with Autism and there is one child who is paralysed.
