Fresh Water Fish Harvesting Awareness Campaign
at Curtorim, organised by Fisher Boys, Corjem, Curtorim, in association with Dept. Of Fisheries

First time in the history of Goa, Dept. of Fisheries and Fisher Boys Corjem organized a joint function on the day of the harvesting of the Fresh water fish at Maitollem, near Carmel Chapel Curtorim. The Organizer Mr. Rui Menezes who does the auction of fishing rights of the lake for the last 15 years was instrumental in organizing this function.

The chief guest was Mr. Reginaldo Lourenco MLA, and Mr. Gonesh Koyu – Secretary of Fisheries department was the guest of Honor. The Director of Fisheries and Deputy Director of Fisheries Mrs Sharmila were as present as the special invitees.

The harvesting started at 6am and the function started soon after. Over 500 fresh water fish eaters and farmers from all over Goa had gathered at the venue.

Mr. Reginaldo Lourenco, local MLA in his brief speech highlighted the importance of breeding fresh water fish as Curtorim is the only village in Goa to has as many as 5 big fresh water breeding lakes.

Mr. Gonesh Koyu said he was proud to witness the harvesting of fresh water fish of the seeds being developed by his department.

The Director of Fisheries also highlighted the various schemes and facilities offered by the department to the fish farmers.

Mrs Sharmila – Deputy Director thanks the guests and the audience and specially the organizers the Fisher Boys for organizing a successful function.
